From the SCOTTISH CATHOLIC OBSERVE, Friday January 22, 1993
THE Archdiocese of Glasgow has just launched the latest video presentation in the WALKING ON WATER series produced by Housetop.
The video, entitled 'I Have no Favourites' is set to become a great favourite throughout the country.
It was shown to representatives of the Archdiocese as well as guests from Motherwell and Paisley and received real critical acclaim.
The video course was produced by Houxtop, a Roman Catholic charity in London, who provide priests, group leaders and R.E. teachers with an array of complementary aids.
After vieving 'I Have No Favourites' the participants unanimously hailed the production as a breakthrough. Archbishop Winning said: "We live in an audio-visual age. Housetop's set of video courses offers a profound and timely new way of fostering faith. It will help people get to know the Word of God not just academically, but in what it means in everyday terms."
Housetop's video courses are co-produced with Catholic Centres in twenty other countries. The Archbishop consented to be one of Housetop's intemational ecclesiastical patrons.
The latest course 'I Have No Favourites' has already won an award at the intemational Christian Video Forum in Driebergen, Holland, in October 1992. But the greatest award, perhaps, was the comment of an elderly person from Cardonald who had just completed the course: "I'm sure I've not understood everything," she said, "but I know God has touched me deeply."
The Catholic press secretary for Scotland's Episcopal conference, Fr. Tom Connelly, commented: "Young people, middle aged or old, all can learn God's Word from this and they will enjoy it."
Fr. Michael Conroy, Spiritual Director of Chesters Seminary expressed the hope that priests instead of directing their flock from above. will join these courses with their people. "Priests too are on a learning curve," he said. "They too need to grow in faith like and with their people. All of us are fed at the same Eucharistie table and need to support each other in faith."
Sister Loyola, a member of the Adult Faith Development Commission in Glasgow, said: "This is excellent. I know parishes thtt are already using Housetop's video courses. I would like to stress that priests who call the price prohibitive are mistaken. Many parishes have found creative ways to overcome this problem, for instance by a small v eekly contribution. And by the time people are halfway through the course, they are totally convinced and ready to pay for the next".
"Moreover", one priest told me, "Most of my budget I spend on building. I should spend at least this much on the faith of my people".
