This Housetop Video Course is about growing old with dignity and joy.
The video shows the story of Jim and his wife, who both face retirement. The account moves through five sections, each of which highlights a reality with which older people have to come to terms:
Participants receive a companion leaflet with questions to prepare for each session.
"The idea that the elderly continue to develop emotionally and spiritually after retirement is hard to grasp. We tend to view old people as living in a kind of emotional vacuun, quietly whiling away their twilight years in a long running reverie of accumulated memories until finally the biological clock ceases to tick. The fact is, however, that when a person retires, he or she has to come to grips with a radically new lifestyle.
Housetop videos are notable for their avoidance of soft focus sentimentalism, preferring instead to make use of the reality of human failure as a vehicle for illustrating how Cod acts in our lives. Coming to Terms is no exception. Excellently produced, it lends itself to fruitful group action. "
Review in THE CATHOLIC HERALD
"Having specialised in work for the elderly for 20 years, I have found the video invaluable as a discussion starter. At the frst session there is stunned silence but then, session by session, the groups begins to talk. I have witnessed the healing and affirmation that result. "
